CineRegio, Ecoprod and Green Film, leading organisations in the field of green production and animation, have joined forces to initiate a collective effort to define shared, international sustainability standards for the animation sector, and reach a certification scheme.
The international working group has the mission to define practical, verifiable, and adaptable criteria that can serve as a shared standard for the sector, as well as to contribute to common tools or methodologies to reduce the carbon footprint of our works. These solutions will support studios in reducing environmental impacts, improving internal practices and demonstrating progress.
These set of criteria will represent a reference framework outlining key actions to reduce the environmental impact of animation workflows. They will also support the creation of a scalable certification scheme that will act as a White Label, helping studios of all sizes track progress and gain recognition for their sustainability efforts, while fostering creativity, innovation and cross-sector cooperation.
Through a two-year collaborative process involving studios, producers, institutions and sustainability experts, the standards aim to provide a clear and internationally aligned framework supporting the environmental transition of the animation industry.
The ANiMPACT International Standards for Sustainable Animation were officially presented at Cartoon Movie on March 3rd.

We invite all animation professionals, studios, producers, film institutions, funders, broadcasters, sustainability and certification experts to review the criteria and share feedback to help refine the clarity, applicability and relevance of the standards across different production contexts.

The initiative’s first achievement is the release of the Green Animation Guide, the first international reference guide for sustainable practices in animation. This landmark tool has been unveiled at the Annecy International Animation Film Market (Mifa) in June 2025. This guide marks a critical step towards the creation of a global certification framework and dedicated tools for green animation production, supporting a future of more sustainable, inclusive and collaborative co-productions.
In October 2025, the Statement for European Sustainability Standards in Animation was released and endorsed by more than 90 animation studios, producers, stakeholders, and sustainability professionals. This collective commitment marks an important step toward promoting responsible practices across the European animation industry and encouraging a more environmentally conscious production ecosystem.
