1919. Amid the heated political climate leading up to the rise of fascism, Beatrice, a determined spy working for Russia, is in Fiume on the day that the poet and war hero Gabriele D’Annunzio launches his visionary revolution. But during the inauguration celebrations, she finds herself caught up in an attempt on the life of the Poet-Warrior. Uncovering the enemies of the revolution is of paramount importance: for Beatrice, who is there to protect D’Annunzio; for Pietro, the head of the Italian secret service torn between duty and ideals; and for Giulio, a doctor and deserter from the Great War with links to anarchist circles. Against the backdrop of a revolution that aims to change the world, the lives of Beatrice, Pietro and Giulio intertwine, revealing a reality in which political intrigues, impossible loves and personal vendettas collide, ultimately shaping not only their own destinies but also those of Fiume, D’Annunzio and Italy, which, at the dawn of the 1920s, finds itself at a crucial crossroads between dictatorship and revolution.
