In 1991, a triple murder committed in the mountains of southern Sardinia led to the swift conviction of an innocent man: Beniamino Zuncheddu. Three levels of judgment in one year resulted in a life sentence. Twenty-five years later, a young lawyer decided to fight—pro bono—to restore his freedom.

«Zustissia» is the story of a life stolen by the longest miscarriage of justice in Italian history: 33 years of wrongful imprisonment. It is also the story of the moving battle that attorney Mauro Trogu and his allies waged to secure a retrial and an acquittal, which came on January 26, 2024.

It is a film about investigative journalism, civic engagement, friendship, and love—love for “sa zustissia,” love for the truth, and love for the mountains, those magnificent peaks from which Beniamino was kept away his entire life… and to which he has now, finally, returned.
