Amid the clamor of everyday life in Milan, six lives intertwine as they search for their own “perfect noise”—a signal to follow so as not to succumb to the silence of emotional numbness. Ralph and Viola live with their son Mirko; amid financial compromises and dreams put on hold, they try to hold their family and dignity together, while their son is bullied at school. Andrea, a photographer who dreams of having a child, is married to Andreina, a nurse crushed by the fear of becoming a mother. And then there’s Alba, a feisty yet fragile woman, trapped in an abusive marriage to Umberto, a children’s hospital activity coordinator. Their lives intertwine amid humiliations, small acts of kindness, old wounds, and repressed desires, but a chance encounter between Viola and Andrea reignites the possibility of a second chance, setting off a chain of events that shakes up each of their lives. Because even in the most ordinary lives, it takes very little to let the masks slip or to rediscover the courage to truly live.
