Gli Occhi degli Altri (The Eyes of Others), directed by Andrea De Sica, is loosely based on the famous Casati Stampa murder, one of the most scandalous crime stories in post-war Italy.
The film evokes the excess and decadence of an era through a modern, fierce and tense lens. In the opulent and wild setting of a private island owned by a wealthy and bored marquis, the arrival of Elena (Jasmine Trinca) marks the beginning of a passionate and dangerous relationship. Between erotic role-playing, voyeurism, complicity and challenges that push the boundaries of morality, the protagonists immerse themselves in a relationship dominated by the desire to be seen while breaking every rule.
But when the game turns into obsession, and love becomes a battlefield between control and loss, everything falls apart. The balance is broken in an escalation of jealousy, manipulation and violence that will lead to a tragic ending. A tale about the power of the gaze and the vertigo that arises when intimacy is exposed to the scene.
A story of sick love and death.
