In the summer of 1944, during the 45 days of the Partisan Republic of Montefiorino, a civil war was fought. In the mountains between Emilia and Tuscany, the controversial episode of Nello Pini’s group took place, guilty of killing a group of fascist militiamen without trial. Through direct testimonies, performances and moments of reflection, the Resistance is revived through fiction, while the past is intertwined with images of a territory that still bears its marks. Paura dell’alba (Fear of Dawn) is a story set in the silence of the high ridges of the Apennines, formally a hybrid between abstraction and the urgent need to remember a delicate moment in which the identity of the Italian Republic took shape.
