ARE YOU UP TO MAKE ANiMPACT?

March 3, 2026

ANiMPACT is an international initiative led by CineRegio, Ecoprod and Green Film. It aims to support the animation industry in accelerating its environmental transition by establishing a coherent, credible, and internationally recognised framework for sustainable production in animation.

While live-action production has progressively adopted environmental standards, animation has so far lacked a common, industry-specific reference framework. ANiMPACT addresses this gap by proposing standards tailored to the operational realities of animation production, across both 2D and 3D workflows.

The development of the Standards is the result of a two-year collaborative effort initiated with the publication of the Green Animation Guide in 2025 in Annecy, built through extensive consultation with sustainability experts, animation studios and producers and representatives of public institutions and funding bodies. The expert working group on standards is composed of Valentina Hučková, Sustainability Representative at CEE Animation, Jean-Baptiste Wery, CEO of Oooolala, Pedro Citaristi, Board Member of Cartoon Italia, Davide Banini, Auditor at Bureau Veritas, and Benoît Ruiz, Consultant in environmental and social engineering for the film and video game industries, and individual consultation of industry and sustainability experts.

This collaborative methodology ensures that the standards are both ambitious and grounded in real production contexts, addressing the concrete challenges faced by animation professionals.
The ANiMPACT Standards were officially presented at Cartoon, marking a significant milestone for sustainability in the animation sector. The initiative now enters a public consultation phase, open to industry professionals until 3 May.

Public Consultation Phase

The public consultation phase aims to gather feedback from across the animation ecosystem, including producers, studios, artists, technicians, funders, broadcasters and distributors.

The objective is to:

  • Test the clarity and applicability of the standards
  • Identify potential operational challenges
  • Ensure alignment with diverse production models and territories
  • Strengthen industry ownership and legitimacy

Professionals are invited to review the proposed standards and contribute their expertise before 3 May.

The consultation represents a crucial step toward establishing a shared and widely recognised sustainability framework for the animation industry. We will be hosting a webinar on 18 March at 11am to present the initiative and answer questions regarding the public consultation. Register Here.

Next Steps: Pilot Projects

Following the consultation period, the feedback collected will inform the final version of the ANiMPACT Standards that will be presented at the MIFA in Annecy. This will mark the start of the pilot phase.

We are seeking pilot animation projects willing to experiment with the implementation of responsible practices in their upcoming productions. These pilot projects will help test the operational applicability of the standards and support their refinement ahead of formal adoption.

By combining consultation and real-world experimentation, ANiMPACT aims to ensure that sustainability in animation is not only principled, but practical and actionable
