GREEN FILM LAB LISBON

November 11, 2025

Portugal on the spotlight of Sustainable Productions

It’s a wrap for Green Film Lab Lisbon – the 11th edition of Green Film Lab,
a programme developed by Torino Film Lab and Green Film to promote environmentally sustainable practices in film production and provide guidance on how to apply a green protocol and get certification, addressed to audiovisual professionals with or without a project, professionals working in sustainability and delegates from film institutions.

The workshop, in collaboration with Instituto do Cinema e do Audiovisual and Portugal Film Commission  kicked off with a general introduction to sustainability in the film industry, after which participants were divided into groups, working on applying the best green practices to their project. Through a practical, project-based and hands-on approach, participants have worked in teams, discussing how to apply the current best practices in terms of energy-saving, transport, accommodation, catering, set decoration, waste management, recycling and communication. They were also asked to consider social aspects, such as the impact on communities. In addition, they networked with other regional and European professionals who share their interest in sustainability.

Throughout the workshop, each team worked and practiced simulating the development of a sustainability plan to achieve the Green Film certification, alternating the team work with inspiring plenary sessions and presentations by the tutors Louise-Marie SmithDörte Schneider Garcia, Lucie Trémolières and Linnea Merzagora, Green Film Project Manager.

The training course has been enriched by Wonder Maria Filmes’ case study: the producer Andreia Nunes presenting their experience with the 1st Portuguese Green Film, 18 holes to Paradise.
