Green Film returns to the Venice International Film Festival

August 25, 2025

At the 82nd edition of the Biennale Cinema, sustainability once again takes center stage.

We’re proud to announce that several Green Film-certified titles will be featured across the official selections, showcasing how powerful storytelling can go hand in hand with environmental responsibility:

Venezia Spotlight

  • Ammazzare stanca by Daniele Vicari, about the autobiography of a boy who rebels against his destiny as a criminal.

 Orizzonti Competition

  • Il rapimento di Arabella by Carolina Cavalli. The story isn’t really about a kidnapping in the usual sense, despite what the title suggests. It’s mostly about a girl finding her own way to fix the past, make peace with regrets, quiet anxiety about the future, and let go of unmet expectations
  • Un anno di scuola by Laura Samani. This film explores the challenges of growing up as a young woman in a male- dominated world, where women’s bodies and desires can be used against them.

Out of Competition

  • Portobello by Marco Bellocchio (Series), recounts one of Italy’s most sensational miscarriages of justice: the story of television presenter Enzo Tortora, the tragic events that led to the ruin of an innocent man.
  •  La valle dei sorrisi by Paolo Strippoli (Fiction),  it is a film about healing love — but at what cost. About the importance of pain in our lives.
  • Orfeo by Virgilio Villoresi (Fiction), an opera that blend languages — including artisanal animation, experimental cinema, and optical techniques — into a symbolic and sensorial tale.

Giornate degli Autori – Competition

  •  La Gioia by Nicolangelo Gelormini
The only Italian title selected for the main competition, La Gioia features Valeria Golino, Saul Nanni, Jasmine Trinca, and more, and is based on the acclaimed play “Se non sporca il mio pavimento”.
