Adele and Sofia, childhood friends now in their thirties, reunite after a long separation to fulfil their lifelong dream: to reach the summit of Mount Etna. It is said that up there you can be swept away by the volcano’s ‘breath’, which makes you realise something about this life. But during the climb, tensions that had built up during their time apart erupt between the two friends, revealing long-hidden secrets. They part ways, and at that moment the volcano begins to tremble. Adele carries on alone, tormented by the regret of not having turned back to reach the crater with Sofia, and to listen together to the breath of Idda.
