ANiMPACT lands at MIFA 2026

June 17, 2026

One year after the launch of the Green Animation Guide, the Annecy Film Festival and MIFA will serve as a platform to showcase the ongoing sustainability initiatives driving meaningful change in the animation industry.

  • Launch of the pilot phase of ANiMPACT at the MIFA
  • MIFA Conference “Greening European Animation” on 25 June
  • Results of the ANiMPACT public consultation
  • ANiMPACT pilot phase
  • Webinar on 1st July
  • One year of the Green Animation Guide

Two years of mobilisation, over 110 organisations engaged, 30 countries represented: the ANiMPACT Standards enter their pilot phase with strong and broad industry backing.

ANiMPACT is an international initiative led by CineRegio, Ecoprod and Green Film. Its objective is to establish a coherent, credible and internationally recognised framework for sustainable production in animation.

The standards were developed over two years through a multi-stakeholder process involving sustainability experts, animation studios, producers, public institutions and funding bodies.

The team behind ANiMPACT will be in Annecy from 22-25.06, if you want to know more about this initiative or join the pilot phase, feel free to reach out and schedule a meeting with us!

MIFA Conference “Greening European Animation”

25 June 9:30 – 10:30am | Rotonde de l’Europe – étage 1 – Impérial Palace – Mifa

ANiMPACT, Carbulator and collective change through cross-border cooperation.

As sustainability becomes an essential priority for the global audiovisual sector, Europe’s animation industry is taking meaningful collective action through shared standards, innovative tools and the exchange of best practices. This panel brings together key European stakeholders to explore the European way of sustainable transformation in animation.

Through discussions on the ANiMPACT standards, Carbulator and real-world studio implementation, panelists will share practical strategies, European and national policy perspectives, and creative approaches to reducing environmental impact across production pipelines.

Results of ANiMPACT’s public consultation

From 3 March to 3 May 2026, a public consultation was conducted across the animation industry.

The aim was to gather feedback on the proposed standards before their finalisation, across three dimensions: clarity of the criteria, completeness of the framework, and feasibility of implementation in real production contexts.

The consultation received 117 entries in total, from 18 countries.

Three findings are consistent across all sections of the questionnaire:

  • Clarity and completeness score high: The great majority of respondents rated the criteria as clear and complete, with scores predominantly at 5 out of 5. This validates the conceptual framework.
  • Feasibility scores are more moderate. Ratings are typically centred around 3 out of 5, reflecting a gap between theoretical understanding and operational readiness. It is a signal that implementation support will be essential.
  • Implementation levels vary significantly by area: for example criteria related to gender balance, wellbeing policies and waste management are already applied by a majority of respondents. Criteria related to carbon footprint measurement, GPU optimisation and sustainable merchandising are largely not yet in place, though respondents recognise their importance.

ANiMPACT Pilot Phase

The initiative now launches its next phase: a pilot phase during which the standards will be tested and adjusted.

ANiMPACT is seeking animation productions willing to test the standards in real conditions. Pilot projects will implement selected measures, provide feedback, and directly shape the final framework. Participating productions will be publicly recognised as ANiMPACT beta testers. Eligible projects must be completed, or at an advanced stage of production, by June 2027.

Productions interested in joining are invited to meet the team at MIFA in Annecy, or to reach out by email. Upon expression of interest, participants will be asked to complete an application questionnaire, sign the Beta testing engagement document, and will then receive the full criteria and audit guidelines.

Applications will open on 25 June.

First Anniversay of the Green Animation Guide

The Green Animation Guide provides peer-driven actionable recommendations tailored to the specific needs of studios, producers and artists, enabling them to implement meaningful changes adapted to their realities. By offering a shared vocabulary and a coherent framework, the guide facilitates dialogue and cooperation across countries and production systems. It delivers detailed guidance on key areas such as green coordination, energy management, IT infrastructure, production workflows, equipment, mobility, waste management and more. It served as the basis for the definition of the ANiMPACT standards and remains a valuable resource to learn how to implement the standards across all players within the animation industry  different production contexts.
